Tomomi Yoshida is a co-owner, manager of roji tea lounge in downtown Syracuse, NY. She is originally from Kyoto, Japan. Also a graduate of the Hospitality Management School in Montreux, Switzerland. Her internships opened her eyes a great deal to the high standard service industry. This was followed by several experiences working in 5 star hotels internationally, mainly in guest relations and as a concierge.
Gradually, her desire became providing relaxation in this competitive and hectic world to people who are looking for an oasis in their daily life. Since her passion has always been becoming a bridge between cultures and helping people, tea fell into a perfect place as she realized that she was born surrounded by rice and tea fields (yeap, very country), and has been brought up in a family closely tied to tea culture.
With owner and husband, Christian Van Luven, who saw the needs and potentials in his hometown while living in NYC, roji was opened in 2004. Roji specializes in providing specialty teas, original drinks/desserts & ambient music to offer a unique atmosphere and an alternative to the Syracuse scene.
Tomomi is certified in specialty teas and offers tea tastings. Her goal is to introduce the tea culture in combining traditional and modern, through sincere service in a casual approach. Once her tea ceremony master grandmother said,
“tea can be enjoyed anyway one wishes”.
Tomomi believes that just a simple cup of tea brings peace and quality in life.
